Using internet to calculate journey distance

In this assignment we had to calculate the distance of a journey in UK from the postal address ha4 9by to Alton Towers, by car and by train and then compare the 2 journeys.
To calculate the journey by car, I used the website http://www.multimap.com and it calculated that the journey will take 151.25 miles, about 2 hours 57 mins.
For train I used the website http://www.transportdirect.info and it calculated that the journey will take 4hours, 28 mins which is much longer then the car journey.

E-books

We had to research about e-books and compare them to normal books, this is what I got:

Name of E-book
: The Affiliate Masters Course

Description
: An E-book that’s downloadable from http://www.free-ebooks.net as PDF. It is about a 10 day course that teaches you step by step to get all the concepts of affiliate marketing. It has links all over the pages to different exercises and it is colorful.

URL: http://www.free-ebooks.net/files/765AffMasters.pdf

Evaluation: Nice and colorful makes it attractive and more interesting to read, but at the same time this makes it download slower. There is lots of links all around the place this makes it easy to jump right to the topic you want, but also this might get confusing. It is downloaded as PDF so it’s size will be less than other formats, but not all computers have PDF readers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name of E-book: The Crack of doom

Description: An E-book that’s downloaded from www.gutenberg.org as html. It is philosophy about out universe. It has a page of contents with links to chapters and it is plain text only.

URL: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/26563/26563-h/26563-h.htm

Evaluation: It downloads very fast as it is html and has only plain text and this can be displayed on any computer, but at the same time the plain text makes it boring to read. The hyperlinked contents page makes it very easy and fast to navigate to chapters.

How Email Works

How E-mail works

  • An email is a piece of text that is being sent from one recipient to another using internet.
  • To send or receive an email you need an email client such as Microsoft Outlook
  • With the email client installed on your computer you need to connect to an email server using internet
  • The email server will have a list of email accounts, it would have a text file for each account in the list
  • When you compose a message and send it, the e-mail client would connect to the e-mail server and pass to the server the name of the recipient , the name of the sender and the body of the message
  • The server will format the whole message into .txt file
  • The email system consists of 2 servers: SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) and POP3 (Post Office Protocol)
  • SMTP server is responsible for handling the outgoing mail. It will deliver the message to the address and would simply hand the message over to POP3, which is responsible for ingoing messages
  • The message will be saved on POP3 as a text file and for the recipient to read the message, he will have to log onto POP3 server with his username and password

First Blog

This is my first time to write a blog. I'm doing this for my I.T. coursework and as the teacher explained to me I have to record about my course and the most important is not the end result, but how do I reach it. Last year I did my IGCSE I.C.T. and there was no coursework, only exam, now this year it is AS level and coursework only so I must get used to this new course. This makes me feel interested as this is something new.
